Trun9ie on myspace

Posted under Personal

About three months ago, I was pressured or tricked into creating a myspace account. Before that I had always wonder why does everyone and their dog have a myspace account? What’s so special about it? I couldn’t even stand to look at some of the my friends’ profiles without getting a headache.

I still think myspace is one of the most ugliest, most ads clustered website on the internet. Yet I continue to log into it every couple of days. Did you know that going through friends’ friends’ friends’ profiles can be very time consuming and addicting too?

Anyway, it has been three months and I’m proud to say that my profile has managed to get 1000+ views. See you on myspace. And add me if you haven’t.

Millionaire by age 42

Posted under Finance

I was chatting with Ivy today who used to work at Ameriprise. Anyway she told me to start saving toward my retirement by opening a Roth IRA account.

She said, if I put in 4,000 dollars every year, then when I turn 42, I should be a millionaire.

Is this too good to be true? If I only invest 4,000 dollars for the next 20 years, then they will only add up to 80,000 dollars. I mean how can this 80,000 going to help me become a millionaire? I don’t have the answer to this. But according to Ivy, this is how it works. Maybe it’s possible after compounding earning on top of earning. Who knows. She told me that she got this number from a financial calculator that Ameriprise uses.

So there you have it. Start putting away 4,000 dollars into your Roth IRA account annually then you will be a millionaire in about 20 years.

Religion and me.

Posted under Personal

To be honest, I don’t really believe in any religion. I’m supposed to be a Buddhist, but I don’t necessary believe it.

What good can religion do for you? It seems that religion have killed more people than it tried to save. Seriously, pick up any history book and see it for yourself.

However, there is something that I do believe in. I believe in being a good person, which is not that hard to do. To me, being good just means mean not harming another and always try to help out whenever possible.

I believe that if I do one good thing, then later on, some good thing will happen to me. Just as if I do something bad, then I will be punished at some point later.

Did you know if all the people in the Middle East decide to give up their religion then the Middle East conflict will just instantly disappear?

What is my goal in life?

Posted under Personal

My goal is to somehow find a way to retire before I turn 30.

That means I must work my ass off right now if I want to make goal come true.

 What is your goal?

P.S. Money does fall from the sky if you know where to look.

I’m making a career change.

Posted under Personal

At the end of the month, I will be making a change to my career.

From having a career to being a bum. No more going to work from 9 to 5. Hehe.

The future is looking very good for me.

Of course, most of you already know what I am going to be doing.

You might dislike him, but you have to admit that he is a pimp!

Just look at how much action he is getting.

Quick and Dirty way to see who has been digging you

Posted under Linux/Unix

The question is how do you find out who’s been digging you?

1. Using the Google Analytics or some similar tracking code. But we don’t have the patient to sit around the whole day waiting for them to update their data.

2. Write some custom code to extract the referral URL in the GET request. Even though we might be able to get real time data with this method, but it will take time to write and test the code. Since most of us are very lazy so this is also a no go.

3. Run some simple shell commands of which I’m about to show you.

The following instruction will only work if you have shell access to your webhost and you know the location of the access.log file, where Apache logs all the activities. On Dreamhost, the path is /home/username/logs/domain_name/http/access.log.

  • To quickly show all the visitors who digged your story.
  • $cat access.log | grep digg.com
  • To count the total number of visitors coming from digg.
  • $cat access.log | grep digg.com | wc -l
  • Here is the magic, monitor digg users in real time as they come.
  • $tail -f access.log | grep digg.com

To see who google’d you, simply replace digg.com with google.com.
